More than 100 pilgrims recently participated in a day-long tour of historic Catholic sites in Detroit, the second such pilgrimage coordinated by the Changing Lives Together Prayer Committee. The November 3 tour departed from the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, and included visits to Old St. Mary's in Greektown, Sweetest Heart of Mary in Detroit, the Capuchin St. Bonaventure Monastery in Detroit, and Ste. Two churches, one parish, one campaign

A decade ago, St. Gertrude and St. Germaine were two Catholic parishes located just over a mile from each other in St. Clair Shores. Built in 1826, the origins of St. Gertrude trace back to Detroit’s earliest east side residents, while St. Germaine was built in 1957 to serve the spiritual needs of baby-boom Catholics in the area. Like many other metro Detroit parishes established in eras when young Catholic families dominated the demographics of several communities in southeast Michigan, as the neighborhoods and populations changed around St. Gertrude and St. Germaine, and with fewer priests available for assignment as pastors, it became clear through the Together in Faith pastoral planning process the two parishes could combine resources and collaborate on ministries to maintain the Catholic presence in that part of St. Clair Shores...

Remodeled parish center at St. Roch accommodates growing ministries

It was more than 50 years before they could build a permanent worship space, but it took just a few months for parishioners at St. Roch in Flat Rock to create badly needed religious education classrooms and office space. The new facilities are now experiencing heavy use and the parish Changing Lives Together campaign made the difference.

After several years of dreaming and planning, it took just a few months a for parishioners at St. Colette in Livonia to use their Changing Lives Together campaign to build a bigger, better church vestibule. More than 780 parish households committed over $963,000 to the initiative earlier this year, enough to start construction in June and complete the job in September...

By any measure, the Changing Lives Together campaign at Our Lady on the River is a major success. More than 700 parish households pledged more than $1 million for improvements and ministries involving all three of Our Lady on the River’s worship sites.
