Tuition assistance helps a Warren family maintain a Catholic education

Providing a Catholic education for their children is a priority and a financial challenge for thousands of parents in southeast Michigan. Catholic schools are a mission priority for the Detroit Archdiocese, which, along with dozens of Catholic schools in metro Detroit, is grappling with increasing school operating costs while trying to keep tuition affordable. As the archdiocesan Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Schools works with pastors and school administrators on an area-wide plan to stabilize and strengthen Catholic education in the Detroit Archdiocese, tuition assistance continues to be a difference-maker.

As 67 more parishes prepare to launch their Changing Lives Together campaigns this summer, the archdiocesan-wide campaign has received more than $50 million in pledges from generous parishioners in just over a year of parish fundraising efforts. Over 35,000 pledges have been received from parishioners at 124 parishes.

More than 100 parishes now participating

Invigorated by 31,000 Catholic households in more than 100 parishes now participating in Changing Lives Together, over $46 million has been pledged in a capital stewardship initiative that will ultimately involve every parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Parishes in the pilot wave, launched in early 2011 recently surpassed their goal raising more than $12 million in pledges, which will primarily support parish-identified priorities. Parishes in the second wave of Changing Lives Together are at 83 percent of their collective goal with over $21 million in pledges.
