Livonia– Changing Lives Together, the archdiocese-wide capital stewardship campaign started in 2011 to help strengthen Catholic parishes and other mission priorities in the Archdiocese of Detroit, has achieved a major milestone by surpassing $100 million in pledges, Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron announced July 31.The archbishop made the announcement during a Vespers service at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Livonia, with nearly 250 pastors, lay leaders and parishioners in attendance.

During his remarks, the archbishop commented on how appropriate it was that the announcement was made within the context of a prayer.

“Vespers, evening prayer, is always about praise and thanksgiving, to thank God for what he’s done,” Archbishop Vigneron said. “It’s all just right, just ‘spot on,’ as the English say, because we’re here principally to thank God for what he’s done in us.”

Archbishop Vigneron said he was “profoundly thankful” for the more than $106 million in pledges from more than 71,600 families in parishes across the archdiocese, toward an eventual goal of $135 million. Seventy percent of funds collected from the campaign will go toward priorities identified by individual parishes, such as building improvements and maintenance, pastoral and ministerial programs or paying down debt. The archdiocese will use the remaining 30 percent to strengthen an endowment providing tuition assistance for families in Catholic schools, bolster priestly and lay formation programs, and support the Church’s presence in the city of Detroit.
