Discernment: Finding God’s Will in All Things – a free day of reflection on November 16

day of reflection

Attendees at a previous Changing Lives Together Day of Reflection at St. Hugo Parish in Bloomfield Hills. More than 90 lay faithful, clergy, and women religious attended the February 23 gathering.

Learn about discernment and Christian decision making at a Changing Lives Together day of reflection on Saturday, November 16 at St. Paul on the Lake Parish, Grosse Pointe Farms!

“This will be about discovering God’s will in making personal and professional decisions as well as seeking the Lord’s guidance in setting priorities and using your time,” said Patti Koval, co-chair of the Changing Lives Together Prayer Activities Committee. “The journey of life for each of us involves all kinds of changes, challenges, and decisions,” she added. “This gathering will help participants come to know what God’s will is for them and how to consider the Lord’s will in their daily lives.”

A segment to help participants discern their individual charisms will be included in the program, entitled Discernment: Finding God’s Will in All Things. The free day-long retreat includes Mass celebrated by Bishop Francis Reiss and three presentations:

  • Draw Near to Him with Confidence
Paco Gavrilides, homiletics instructor at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Detroit
  • Attachment or Abandonment: Getting Things Out of His Way
Rev. Msgr. Patrick Halfpenny, pastor, St. Paul on the Lake Parish
  • The Examen: Praying Through the Day
Ann Dillon, director, Ignatian Formation, Manresa Jesuit Retreat House

Guided prayer and meditation will follow each of the presentations with reconciliation and individual prayer opportunities available all afternoon.

Discernment: Finding God’s Will in All Things is offered free of charge in appreciation for the work of the lay faithful who organized, participated in, and made pledges to Changing Lives Together. Catholics who participated in Changing Lives Together in any way – as campaign leaders, volunteers, or donors – are welcome to come closer to Christ through the retreat.

“In his prayer for the Changing Lives Together initiative, Archbishop Vigneron reminds us, ‘With the strength of the Holy Spirit, Christ has sent us … to be his instruments for sowing the seeds of his love in our age,’” said Tom Scholler, co-chair of the Changing Lives Together Prayer Activities Committee. “In that spirit, we thought providing this retreat to those who made personal and family commitments to Changing Lives Together would be a nice way of extending our thanks in a spiritually meaningful way,” he added.

Space is limited for the 8:00 am to 3:00 pm retreat – make your reservation today! Call Patty Barajas-Jimenez at 313-883-8657 or email: barajas.patricia@aod.org
